McDonald’s Celebrates Black History Moments on Canvas is an exciting art contest that honors the contributions of people of African descent to American and world history. Celebrate Black History Month with metro Detroit McDonald’s restaurant owners who are giving away up to $5,000 in cash prizes and a gallery exhibit featuring the best paintings, drawings or sculptures about black history.

No purchase is necessary to enter or win a prize. A purchase will not increase chances of winning Internet access and a valid email address required to submit entries online.

High school students, you can enter for a chance to win with a work of art that you create. Entry is open to Michigan students 13 to 19 years old who are a resident of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Lapeer, Livingston, Monroe, Washtenaw and St. Clair counties and who currently are enrolled at and attending home school or a public, private or charter high school.

Submit a photo of your historically accurate artwork depicting a significant figure, moment or event in black history with a completed entry form online or by mail for a chance to win! Fifty semifinalists advance to the final round. Twelve finalists are selected for first-, second- and third-place prizes, along with prizes for fourth- to 12th-place winners.

The contest starts Jan. 28, 2013, and ends Feb. 14, 2013. Winners will be announced during a special event to unveil the artwork in an exhibit at the N’Namdi Center for Contemporary Art in Detroit.
